British Columbia
The West Coast.
Vancouver and beyond.
Vancouver is a popular choice for Kiwis. It’s an easy stopover to break the long journey to Europe, a natural start or finish for a grand tour of Canada, and a great starting point if you’d like to see something of the USA as well.
Eye of the Wind, Grouse Mountain
A wind turbine you can go up: its glass viewing pod sits just metres from the massive, rotating blades, with the whole of Vancouver below.
Gastown
Gastown was established the year Canada became a nation, and grew from a single tavern opened by John “Gassy Jack” Deighton into the heart of one of the country’s most cosmopolitan cities. It keeps its historic charm and independent spirit, and its steam clock, built by Raymond Saunders in 1977, still whistles the hours.
Capilano Suspension Bridge
One of Vancouver’s most popular attractions, and deservedly so: a walk across the swaying suspension bridge, high above the Capilano River and through the treetops.
Grouse Mountain
Take the aerial tram up Grouse Mountain for spectacular views over Vancouver, and a close-up encounter with grizzly bears and birds of prey.
Osoyoos Lake
Osoyoos Lake has long been a hidden gem of the Okanagan, British Columbia’s fruit and wine region. A favourite with Vancouverites, its beauty is now drawing visitors from much further afield.
